Warnings

Otago CDEM is continuing to support affected Clutha communities

Alert opened: 28 Oct 2025

A State of Emergency remains in place for the Clutha District due to extensive damage caused by severe winds and the impacts of ongoing power outages.

Work is continuing to restore services, and good progress has been made but this will still take some time to complete.

The communities' welfare needs are continuing to be assessed — these include drinking and wastewater services.

Support for farmers

We are working with a few key partners and contractors to hold Rural Information Meetings on tomorrow (29 October).

9am - Ōwaka Community Centre

12pm - Simpson Park, Lawrence

3pm - West Otago Town and Country Club, Tapanui

7pm - Clydevale Rugby Club

We will be covering an update on the current situation following the weather event, safety matters, information on generators, dangerous tree management, tree cleanup, welfare, and more.

Brought to you by MPI and Otago Rural Support Trust, and joined by CDC, Cowley Electrical, Mark Patterson MP, Mike Hurring Logging and others.

Refreshments (tea and coffee) provided. Please tell your neighbours or anyone who may not be aware.

MPI and Dairy NZ are assessing any help that farmers may need to milk cows.

Farmers who require support are encouraged to contact their local Rural Support Trust on 0800 787 254.

Otago Regional Council has postponed all proactive dairy farm inspections. Council’s compliance team can be reached on 0800 800 033 or pollution@orc.govt.nz.
